I was thrilled for Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker. I was disappointed, however, that the Academy didn't find some way to recognize what Avatar was to people. It broke new ground and tons of records and made Hollywood billions. I feel Hurt Locker had a far better message but definitely not a popcorn movie. Anyway, great chatting with you all last night!

I really hope Up manages to break out of the Animated feature wins, since it clearly transcended the category.

Was just talking to Katie about my surprise about Meryl Streep being a lead contender for Best Actress. Obviously, her performance was great, but could we just rename the category to "Best Actress for people who are not Meryl Streep" just so that it could be a little more interesting?

Even with 10 Best Pictures, the noms were a total snoozefest this year. The only surprise was that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was not nominated for best animated feature. Dark horse--The Secret of Kells

I am excited that up was nominated for best picture. dont think it will win but i like that its there. i feel the oscars have begun moving away from sort of traditional nominations. i like it.

I loved 'An Education,' but I think Mo'Nique, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, and Christoph Waltz are the sure things. Also.. the 'Best Film' category is bigger this year. 10 nominees. Should be interesting.

I think Ebert's predictions this year are totally on the money: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100129/OSCARS/100129974

SarahR where are you putting your predictions? I think we should post them in the Media section somehow.

I was hoping more from An Education. Film was solid but I didn't feel it was great.

After the awards earned by Precious this year, I'm hopeful that Mo'Nique and Gabourey Sidibe get nominated for acting.

That's two of you who mentioned WTWTA for Oscar. Any other movies for this? There has to be something that stands out from the year...

Just added Where the Wild Things Are to the Movies module. Think it will be a big winner this year and defy the odds.
